Ikea Hacking

If you’re a poor college student who suffers from a bad case of (at least what you believe to be) good taste, Ikea Hacking seems to be the way to go. Basically, Ikea Hacking entails modifying old furniture (either from Ikea or elsewhere) with cheap pieces from Ikea—or taking cheap Ikea accessories and making artistic adjustments—to make them more aesthetically pleasing or functional.

Now, my taste is hardly refined, so I have no problem with Ikea furniture (and honestly, I see no reason for anyone to), so I see this Ikea hacking trend as pretty resourceful and awesome. I have yet to hack anything myself (due, more or less, to my lack of money) but I want to very, very badly. As soon as I absolutely need a new piece of furniture, which will probably be when I move into a new apartment in September, I’ll definitely utilize the Ikea Hacker blog.

The blog updates about every day with new projects posted from all around the world. While some projects are more informative and offer better step-by-step instructions on how to emulate them, the website is to the brim with interesting and creative ideas that require significantly less money than buying pre-constructed designer furniture.

Some of my favorites:

That’s only a little taste.

You should really check the site out if you need some new furniture—it’s a wonderful resource.
